La Normalización Z-score, también conocida como estandarización, es una técnica de preprocesamiento de datos comúnmente utilizada en análisis estadísticos y aprendizaje automático. Su principal objetivo es convertir los datos en una distribución normal estándar con una media de 0 y una desviación estándar de 1, eliminando así la influencia de diferentes escalas y unidades en el entrenamiento del modelo.


En muchas tareas de análisis de datos, las unidades y rangos de las características pueden variar, lo que lleva a que ciertas características dominen el proceso de entrenamiento del modelo. La Normalización Z-score ajusta cada punto de datos en relación con la media y la desviación estándar, haciendo que las distribuciones de las características sean más consistentes para el análisis y modelado posterior.


El Z-score se calcula mediante la fórmula: Z = (X - μ) / σ, donde X es el valor original que se va a normalizar, μ es la media y σ es la desviación estándar. Esta fórmula permite transformar los datos en una escala estandarizada.


La Normalización Z-score se utiliza ampliamente en varios campos, especialmente en modelos de aprendizaje automático como Máquinas de Vectores de Soporte (SVM), regresión logística y redes neuronales. La consistencia en la escala de las características puede aumentar la velocidad de convergencia y la precisión del modelo.


Las ventajas incluyen la eliminación de la influencia dimensional entre las características, lo que hace que el entrenamiento del modelo sea más estable, y ayudar a aumentar la velocidad de convergencia del algoritmo, especialmente en métodos basados en gradientes. Sin embargo, es sensible a los valores atípicos, que pueden distorsionar los resultados, y es adecuado solo para datos que siguen una distribución normal; si la distribución de los datos se desvía gravemente de la normalidad, puede no ser efectiva.
